tripadvisorThis is a fun place to go bouldering and light rock climbing and spend some time on the way up to the many other trails in the area, but don't be fooled by the name, there are no waterfalls (at least from June to September) I have not seen any water other than little green puddles and even those are gone now.
MoreI’ve been there many times in 2010/2011 from September to end of June, always full of water. This year in July (2019) no water at all.
MoreWe went yesterday to hike the 7 falls, and the entire waterfall and river is bone dry currently. Writing this review to warn others (we were not the only disappointed hikers). You can also access Inspiration Point from the same trail, but be forewarned that this hike is extremely hot with little shade and quite the elevation gain. The Inspiration Point hike takes about an hour up and 45 minutes down if you attempt that instead of the 7 Falls. There is not a proper parking lot if you go this route, and you are parking on the road. Even on a weekday afternoon, it was crowded, so be wary if you attempt this hike on a weekend. If you want to do Inspiration Point, we were told there is more parking at the Inspiration Point trailhead instead of the Tunnel Top Road entrance.
MoreAt Santa Barbara's Tunnel Trail/Inspiration Point/Seven Falls hiking trails, the number of hikers has surged, bringing problems of unsafe parking, dogs off leash, noise, trespassing, and trash. Hikers should observe common-sense rules: pack out what you pack in; respect the natural surroundings. Pay attention to drivers as you must walk from your car to the trailhead in the traffic lane. This is a high-fire area. Parking is allowed only within the white painted lines at the side of the road so that fire trucks and cars can use the lanes when an evacuation is necessary. Do not block fire hydrants. Consider using Uber on busy weekends. People living below the trailhead along with their dogs, chickens, and geese enjoy the rural calm of the area. Please respect the peace and quiet of the neighborhood and the privacy of the residents. Mute your boom boxes and car radios; do not park on landscaping or driveways; keep your dogs under control at all times; do not hit fences or mailboxes. Above all, neither hikers nor their dogs may poop or pee on residents’ property. There are no bathrooms and no potable water in the forest. Parking is limited and policed. Come prepared for an outdoor adventure with adequate water and plastic bags to carry out all your trash. The trails provide a wonderful outdoor experience for many hikers who respect the residents and fellow hikers. Do join them!
MoreThis hike was beyond my ability and I am a fair to average hiker. The terrain was ever changing from what seemed easy and well marked to disappearing when crossing streams and humping over and up large boulders and fallen trees. It became very steep and slippery at times so much so that we were on our knees grabbing at tree roots to pull ourselves up. When we reached the top, we were disappointed as there is little water due to drought, but the views were nice. I was grateful to get home and just exhausted, not exhilarated as I should have been for completing such a hike. You really need to have great balance, stamina, strength, map and hiking boots to complete this one and do bring plenty of water, protein bars and a charged cell. People have gotten lost and injured out there. Do not recommend!
