tripadvisorWhile visiting I notice some of the CSA veteran stones have cement poured around them. This will eventually cause major damage to the stone and may destroy them. As someone who has been learning proper cemetery restoration I would hate to see this continue. Aside from this I enjoyed the cemetery and memorials.
MoreQuite reflective place full of history. The final resting spot of generations of pioneer families surround the iron fenced fallen Confederates. 4 Yankees are buried inside the gate but separate from the southern boys. Once Boy Scouts played taps and placed rebel flags on each grave. That was in a different era. A large memorial to all the service men and women who served in the military is prominently located near by. The zephyrs whisper through the trees above the warriors now at rest.
MoreIt is interesting there are victims from both sides buried here with 421 Confederate soldiers and 4 unknown Union ones. I'm unsure why it is fenced off preventing walking among the graves, but the short picket fence doesn't block your view. Great history and easy to access.
MoreGreat Place to Visit, Great Place to Walk, Great Place to Be Alone and Contemplate. Good Place for Genealogy Research
MoreWe stopped here while in the area. The grounds are positively lovely and so nicely cared for. Walking through the cemetery is like turning the pages of a history book. It's large and has diverse areas. This is a nice way to spend an hour or so.
