tripadvisorI gave this place 4 stars because of the pleasing urban design. The harmonious skyscrapers that look like books on a shelf, all matching. This was once a very vibrant part of the city full of office workers and shoppers crowding into the shops and places to eat and drink. But Covid killed that all and now it is too empty. Makes me sad. But the urban design is still here.
MoreThe architectural style of the building is very unique. I only checked out from outside and took some photos.
MoreThis complex was brilliant urban renewal back in the 1970s. Busy office traffic, a big modern hotel and lots of shopping and eating. And then Covid hit and the center has not recovered with too many vacant spaces. But the lovely urban design is still here and I hope it comes back some day.
MoreThe Embarcadero Center in San Francisco is a commercial complex of four office towers, two hotels and a shopping center spanning four blocks in the heart of the city. Located at 1-4 Embarcadero Center, in the Financial District, it was built in phases from 1968 to 1983 along the harbor from Fisherman's Wharf to the Ferry Building. Open from 10 to 7 Monday through Friday and 10 to 6 on Saturday, it is known for its stunning views of San Francisco Bay, its vibrant atmosphere and diverse attractions. Not to mention the culinary delights of the Ferry Building to the playful sea lions at Pier 39. the historical significance of Alcatraz Island and the interactive fun of the Exploratorium. It is one of the largest mixed use complexes in the western United States with more than 125 stores on three levels plus concerts, festivals and art displays. For shopping, visit Black Tie, Beckett & Robb, Boho Petite, Sephora, Shoe Wiz, San Francisco Gift Baskets or Embarc Wines. For services, stop at Biz Love, Amadeus Flowers, Chase, Lydia's Flowers, Vanity Beauty Lounge, Comerica Bank, Cosmetic Dentistry, Bridal Galleria or Escobar Brothers Custom Tailors. For dining, the choices include Harborview Restaurant & Bar, Jerry's Roast Pork, Gambino's New York Subs, Rosalind Bakery, Patriot House, 5th Avenue Deli & Market, Boudin Sourdough Bakery, Don Ramon's, The Posh Bagel, Burger Littles, Cheesy Bits Sweets, Blue Hawaii Acai Cafe, Whack Donuts and Gochees Pizza. The Embarcadero Center was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
MoreI enjoy the urban design of this large complex containing shopping, eating, offices and hotels. There is harmony in the architecture and it is very pedestrian friendly. Sadly with the decline of retail and work-from-home, the place is not as lively as it used to be, but it still looks good. Come here for a meal.
