tripadvisorConsidering the size of the engagement in terms of the total forces involved, this is not much of museum. But unfortunately, historical sites all across the country are slowly dying as our youth are not being taught about it much, and what they are being taught is skewed.
MoreI went there in mid-July to the Visitors center and we arrived about 1PM hoping to get in to view the attraction. There was another man waiting in the parking lot too but it was not open with no sign to indicate when it might open. I wish they would have had the courtesy to indicate that they were not opening that day(Thursday) as this would have saved a great deal of time. We also came later in the day with still no one there. We also called 2 different numbers associated with the museum with no reply. Don't bother with this unorganized place!
MoreVisited the Battle of Westport Visitors Center during a heatwave in July. Did not walk the grounds but the Center had a lot of information on the Battle and General Price's (CSA) raid into Missouri. Westport is the site of two day battle which became a fight for the fords across creeks and rivers The Battle of Westport Visitors Center is located near Byram's Ford a critical fording spot and the site of fighting on both days of battle. If you get lucky you will be met at the Center by Dick Titterington, author and all around expert on the Civil War in the Trans-Mississippi region.
MoreWe were looking forward to coming here. This was actually part of the reason for coming to Kansas City. This place has very limited hours, and then isn't even open when it should be. Complete waste of time. Also can't believe the garbage outside.
MoreThe Battle of Westport was a significant event, and is largely experienced by following a series of historical markers around the Kansas City area. Good for Civil War buffs.
