Sponsored by independent oil operator John W Mecom and his wife Mary Mecom for the city of Houston, Mecom Fountain was designed by Eugene Werling and was completed in 1964. Standing at the intersection circle of Main Street and Montrose Street, Mecom Fountain captivates the attention of pedestrians and drivers with its graceful display. The monument is a tiered combination of three fountains, and at the time of its construction was the largest of its kind in Houston. The fountain is lit up during night time making the floral pattern of the water jets look even more attractive.
