An Historic and Significant Neighborhood I was exploring the parks along the harbors and Bay from my hotel, when I discovered the North Shore Historic District, essentially adjacent to the North Shore Park, and the North Shore Aquatic Complex. We were in St. Petersburg for a series of meeting for my wife in March, so I was strolling solo, with a tourist map in hand, heading no place in particular. After walking through the fairly contiguous parks, I turned around to head back to the Vinoy hotel, where we were staying. As I had walked along the water, I turned inland a bit, and was pleasantly surprised that I was in the North Shore Historic District, and neighborhood of historic, and mostly well-preserved, or authentically restored homes - lovely. I knew nothing about this neighborhood, and it really did not even appear on my little map, so I just strolled, and admired the structures. This is a beautiful, peaceful and historically significant area, and I highly recommend it. I returned via North Shore Dr, past the Dog Park, which is worth a stop too.

Just took a Memorial Day stroll through the Old Northeast area...not the waterfront tour downtown (which also good). It's amazing how much history there is in the older homes of St Petersburg.

Went here to play beach volleyball at the North Shore Park (6 lit courts) and on my way passed through this historic district. Many nice restored homes in a pleasant area with tons of shade trees.

This quiet part of the city is also often called Old Northeast. Almost three thousand buildings there are officially registered as historic, it's mainly a residential area with beautiful homes and several large parks facing the bay. These quaint parks - Elva Rose Park, Flora Wylie Park and Gizella Kopsick Palm Arboretum (gorgeous palm trees of all varieties!) - add so much to the beauty of the whole area. The North Bay Trail also runs through the parks- perfect for walking, biking, running. And there's even a fenced North Shore Dog Park there - a paradise four our best friends. Something for everyone! In January my friends and I visited this historic part of town, and really enjoyed being there.

Walking through this beautiful historic district will expose you to lovely homes and beautiful tropical landscaping. However do not miss the water front. Here you will find a large park to stroll or run along plus public tennis courts and a small beach. But my favorite is the North shore Aquatic Complex at Northshore Drive and 10th Ave.NE. There are three pools: first is a large pool that is divided into lap lanes along with diving boards and a general swim area..next is a smaller lap pool and finally a children's pool with great slides and water guns. It is a beautifully clean pool and very peaceful. Beats a hotel pool any day.
