tripadvisorNice statue which is a little off the beaten path to honor the contribution of the pioneer women to the westward migration of the Europeans. Short visit.
MoreWhile taking a tour of Albuquerque this pioneer statue was pointed out to us and a brief history of what it represents and well worth the statue being there.
MoreThese women went along with their husbands on the trip west in covered wagons originally and later the railroad and in the dust bowl in old cars. Mostly this monument remembers all the women from the early days when covered wagons were the only means of transportaton.
MoreWE are always on the lookout for another adventure. Sometimes a current adventure inspires future travels. That is the case here. We were in Albuquerque looking to take in the city and culture. We read about this monument so we thought why not check it out. The monument itself is well - nothing special. But what it represents is the message. Albeit the writing on the monument was not super inspiring - other reviews have listed it so we will not take the same tack in this review. But the fact that there are 12 of these statues in other states demonstrating the trail westward. Each representing the woman's roll in the westward expansion has inspired us to research this more and Lord Willing follow this trail of these 12 monuments and the trail westward. Interesting thought provoking stop for an uninteresting monument.
MoreThis was the first we had heard of these dozen monuments. No problem finding it or parking on the side of the road for a picture.
