He built a simple prairie and canyon into a massive cattle empire. He promised his wife a fine house. The house became known as the castle on the pains. The house and grounds have been meticulously restored by the county historical association with the generous help of many. The restoration is less than two years old and the new visitor center is even newer. Veryl Goodnight, a distant relative of Charles, sculpted Molly Goodnight feeding a baby buffalo from a bottle. The sculpture stands between the house and the visitor center. I commemorates the efforts by the Goodnights to rescue a small herd of native buffalo and nurture them back to health.
