tripadvisorThis large, spacious, park off Jamieson Avenue in St. Louis was the site of our Family reunion today. We rented a pavilion that had parking in front, our portable potty, grill, nearby playground and lake. There was also a dog park nearby. I felt like we had our own oasis in the city because no one but our group was near. Very peaceful, well maintained , I highly recommend a visit.
MoreHad great fun watching people play frisbee golf on a gorgeous autumn afternoon at Willmore Park. It's a well-marked disc golf course, and offers great views of the city's most glistening and serene lake. I enjoyed the walking paths myself. Felt like a weekend getaway!
MoreWillmore Park is a linear park that parallels the River Des Peres in southwest city. I only drove past prior to the Disc Golf course opening. There is plenty of room for all from fishermen, to urban hikers, to players on the ball fields, Willmore has a lot packed in there. Several picnic shelters dot the park with recycle dumpsters near the exit. The Disc Golf course is 18 well marked holes with concrete tees. Distance is challenging (600'+ longest) with multiple pin placements. There is a new (2014) play area for kiddos (colorful and well planned) and a fenced in dog run area. All the good stuff above, the cons: Restrooms are dismal (ladies should stop at Walgreen or elsewhere). Bring your own water. Dog poop from disrespectful owners (hope they clean up their OWN selves). Lakes need dredging. Beyond 'CON'trol: The beloved HOT summer whiffs of the river. Can get really windy. My group calls Willmore River-Des-Par hope you enjoy, and please don't litter.
MoreWe have always enjoyed going to Willmore park with it's big open spaces, 2 lakes with plenty of ducks to feed, many recreational options and pavilions for parties. On Saturday, August 9th, 2014 they opened their new playground and splash pad and it is a big improvement over the previous playground. The whole area is fenced in so little ones can't run off without you noticing. It has an outer space theme with lots of slides, plenty to climb on, a music area, swings and it is all handicap accessible as well. I love that it has 3 big shade umbrellas with benches for the parents to sit on. There are restrooms, a water fountain and picnic tables nearby. While here check out the hockey rink, dog park, tennis courts, disk golf course, horseshoes and fishing lakes. While the official address for this park is on Jamieson Ave. the only vehicle entrance is actually on Hampton Ave. just south of where Hampton and Jamieson intersect. Street parking is available all along Jamieson. While in the area you can take Jamieson west to Chippewa for a cool treat at Ted Drew's.
