tripadvisorThis is only for the jaded traveler who has been to LA more than once. This is a worthy side trip from Point Dune, for instance, or if you’re heading out to Oxnard or Ventura. After parking at the head of a rather hard to find trail, you’ll hike about 10 minutes out to an abandoned hanger that’s lost all its siding. The frame remains the lasting monument of a dairy once run by mental patients as occupational therapy. It’s surrounded by a chain link fence easily dismissed by crawling through a large hole on the west end. You can climb up to the second floor, being careful to step only where you are supported by metal girders. Teens will like this. Even better is the abandoned asylum itself, a veritable treasury of highly crafted graffiti. This will leave an impression. Not exactly haunted, but daunting to the imagination. No doubt many a shock therapy session ran its course here.
