tripadvisorThis statue is a beautiful work of art. To me it expresses the freedom of childlike innocence at play.
MoreHad a hard time finding this, it wasn't very clear online or on trip advisor. It was behind some type of condo building where construction was happening, it was only okay, the structure itself was cool, but kind of a pain in the butt to find. Probably would skip it if you are a tourist.
MoreWhat can I say Worcester seems to have a fixation about kids with animals statues. Well some questionable, this statue does look cool when seen in person.
MoreThe Worcester Historical Museum told us about a very nice sandwich shop half a block away. As we made our way there, we passed this very impressive looking statue right there in the Courtyard of the One Chestnut Place high rise. The plaza is very attractive, with this work being the centerpiece. We read the plaque, and the work was by David Wynne 1974. It had been commissioned by a Worcester citizen (Raymond P. Harold) and dedicated to his memory in 1991. The name of the work is Boy With A Dolphin. Upon our return, I looked up David Wynne (1926-2014) and he was quite a successful and popular artist, especially known for his dolphin pieces. He never had any formal training because, according to him, you can't teach art any more than you can teach love. One of his sons, as a child, was the model for the boy with the dolphin. David Wynne proved popular with his royal patrons and members, and was at the forefront of British sculpture. He seems to have works all over England, but I could not find anything of his in the USA. This might be the only one of his well known works of art in this country. Really impressive and important looking, and only half a block down from the Historical Museum. Definitely worth a look.
