tripadvisorWe were in Pigeon Forge for the Jeep Invasion and decided to take a road-trip to do some sight-seeing in the surrounding areas. We drove to Fort Dickerson Park and went to the overlook to get a beautiful view of the Augusta Quarry. Wow! Definitely do this. Then drive to the Quarry and get in the water. There are floating docks and the water is divine. There is a little snack bar with bathrooms and a changing room. You can grab a life jacket for use for free or pay $5.00 for a tube or $16.00 for a paddleboard (no cash accepted). We went during the week and it wasn't crowded. It was so beautiful and peaceful. We floated on the life jackets for a few hours before heading back to Pigeon Forge.
MoreVisited briefly one morning to the overlook side only. Went to the old fort area walked through seeing the cannons and reading the history. Nice! Then went to the quarry overlook, which was a marvelous view. Hiked from there to the campground and back. Nice peaceful park with views within the city of Knoxville.
MoreFort Dickinson is a large area with nice picturesque trails and hardscapes around the quarry, which has some boating activity it looks like that could be very fun in the summer. The historical path on the top of the hill is ok but very small and not much to see beyond the intense history buffs interest with a few cannons and some ruins,
Moreamazing swimming spot. had fun jumping from the rocks. a mix of locals and travelers, there was a place to rent paddle boards.
MoreGreat spot to hike is around the quarry, at the entrance pull up the hill and turn left into parking area. I suggest hiking with a partner as well!
