tripadvisorSonora, a bright-red abstract sculpture, brings a splash of color to black, white and earth-toned Downtown Tucson. It stands in front of the Joel Valdez Main Library at the corner of North Stone Avenue and West Pennington Street. A somewhat controversial piece when dedicated in 1991, the work seems like part of the landscape now. This creation, by David Black, is an abstraction of desert landscapes, though I think that much imagination is needed to grasp that theme. Made from metal and paint, the sculpture incorporates an uncomfortable bench, where I often see people sitting. I would not recommend making a special trip to see this public art. But if you're Downtown and in the neighborhood, take a look.
