tripadvisorThe Pope Farm Conservancy is a beautiful spot for walking or picnicking, especially on a warm, but not hot, day. The setting is very tranquil and there are many walking paths to choose from. Most of the paths have little to no shade so bring a hat and wear sunscreen. It might be very uncomfortable on a hot day. Intrepretive signs provide information. The signs cover some of the local, indigenous people history which is very interesting. Lots of parking and entrance to the park is free.
MoreThe Pope Farm Conservancy is a wonderful adventure for families and individuals alike. Whether simply to seek the beauty of nature or to learn about First Peoples culture, geology, botany, history, and zoology, this the place to be. With well-designed signage and easy trails over an undulating landscape it is a living, ever-changing classroom. It's great, too, if you're just looking for someplace quiet to reflect and unwind. The Town of Middleton, west of Madison, is lucky to have this land once owned by the Pope Family remain as a conservancy especially with the expanding single family homes moving farther and farther into the surrounding countryside. The Conservancy is free and open to the public.
MoreWent to see the sunflowers in bloom on a beautiful day in June. Wonderful trails and able to get beautiful photos.
MorePope Farm is a free park west of Madison , a couple of miles beyond the beltline, AKA Hwy 12, on Old Sauk Rd. It is open daylight hours and has some parking. There are some historical signs all worth reading. I'm sorry to see a new school development encroach on the parks border and hope it does not hinder the current view of the State Capital building.
MoreThis conservancy is a gem in western Middleton. There is plenty of parking, and room to roam the well-maintained trails. Picnic areas are available. There is varied terrain; take the longer loops to see the old-growth Oak forest, and shelter on the rocks arranged along the trail. In the past, sunflowers were grown here in the summer and the sunflowers were stunning. However, the crowds over-ran the park and its facilities, and the Sunflower event has been discontinued this year. No matter- the park is beautiful without the sunflowers.
