tripadvisorNice enough downtown for a big new suburb. Some old buildings and some new ones. A good place to get our of your car and stroll for food and shopping.
MoreTruth is we were trying to find a parking space for Babes Chicken and stumbled upon the quaint downtown square. We enjoyed the leisurely stroll around the square and did some unplanned shopping after lunch in a Main Street antique store. Very inviting and safe vibe around the square & amazingly quiet given the proximity to the interstate.
MoreThe main area of Carrolton wasn't expecially big but it's a nice stop. There are good restaurants, a beer garden and a nice public square.
MoreParked in front of one of the stores in the Historic Downtown area. Saw a man laid out on one of the nice benches they have all around the square. Smelly man had his stuffed suitcase laid out on sidewalk in a way to take up as much sidewalk space as possible as he took a nap. We walked into store looked around and then mentioned to clerk if she knew there was a man sleeping on the bench in front of store. At first she behaved as if she did not know. As we continued to chat she admitted that he is there all the time and that he had some mental issues. She said sometimes he gets off his meds because he does not like how meds make him feel and he gets into arguments. She felt sorry for him and I do too, but this is not the place for him. Told her we would not be taking a risk again. Not coming back to shop and eat there. As we drove away, we saw five more homeless that appeared to be coming from the train on way towards the square. Had we stayed around we would have been outnumbered by homeless and their carts, suitcases full of junk in the square. Soon enough people will completely stop coming to shop/eat. Just read news about homeless man in NYC that severely beat a woman with his belt.
MoreHad dinner at our favorite spot in Historical Downtown Carrollton and spent some time with my Grandchildren at the square enjoying the gazebo water fountains.
