They say everything is bigger in Texas. That is certainly the case with the Tex Randall statue. This cowboy is easy to spot as you're driving into Amerillo from the south. You can get a close up look at the statue by taking the exit near the area. You can park next to the small park that is home to Tex. The statue has been rescued and restored and given a nice location for people to get up close with it for their photo ops. The attraction is official listed on Roadsideamerica.com. There are signs near the statue that give more information about the history and preservation of the statue.

We found the cowboy just a few minutes from downtown (which is fabulous). To get a full picture you have to step into the road so be careful, although the road was not busy. He is fenced in so you can't get too close. There is a plaque that tells you about the history. Very interesting and super fun!

This was a nice quick stop on our road trip. There is a small parking lot next to the Statue with a walk that goes around it. There is also a historical marker out front that tells the history of how the Statue got there and how it was made. I thought it was cool that the back pocket even has a skoal ring! If you're country then you definitely understand the significance of that. This is a free roadside attraction and a good photo opp.

It was SO interesting learning about the history of Tex Randall & how the town & state worked together to bring this icon back to life on several occasions. In order to take a picture, we had to park across the freeway so we could take our picture too!

No we weren’t brave enough to try the 72 ounce challenge, but we did share a delicious tomahawk steak with all the sides. Our waitress was on the ball and kept our glasses full.
