tripadvisorSeedy and beat up. Looks as if federal revitalization money was used in an attempt to freshen it up. The bridge park is ok affords nice views. Just a block away are decripit neighborhoods and drunken and/or drugged out bikers.
MoreWe happenstanced upon this shoreline park area; while exploring the Poughkeepsie waterfront. This is a well-maintained, nicely conceived slice of River front; with beautiful views of the water, bridges and River activity. There are picnic tables, benches, a shoreline pathway, etc., for the public's convenience. This is apparently a popular venue; even mid-week, mid-morning, though not overly crowded, there was a steady stream of people coming and going. This venue is a wonderful resource for both local residents, and visitors.
Morebeautiful part of the city, with lovely views of the Hudson. Benches for just sitting and relaxing, and several restaurants nearby.
MoreI have been coming up to the Hudson River Valley for many years and I have never before really explored Poughkeepsie. I had been downtown years ago when it was gentrifying but that was in 1997. The whole waterfront area and lower Main Street and the waterfront is going through a change right now with newer people snatching up homes in the historic Union Street area, lower Downtown and the Waterfront adding in new bars, restaurants and stores. Little Italy does not exist pretty much any more except for two restaurants, a hair salon and a bakery and one pizzeria. The rest is being renovated for artists who are moving into the area and renovating the houses in this section. The Walkway Across the Hudson is changing all of this as is new housing by the river. Poughkeepsie is a City to watch.
MoreThe waterfront in Poughkeepsie is a great place to view the Hudson River. Standing on the bank reveals how huge it is and rather placid. Occasionally there are barges making a lumbering way on the river - which is interesting to see.
