tripadvisorFrom 1869, a lovely lighthouse on the Hudson River at the entrance to Saughterties Harbor. Parking area is small, and entrance looks a bit creepy - but the 1/2 mile walk is worth it. Check tide tables before planning to go, as high tide of 4 feet make the path impassable. The inside is closed in October, but behind it is a lovely deck with picnic table and chairs. When it's open, it can be rented as a B&B.
MoreIt’s a lovely, short walk. Peaceful and pretty. The lighthouse itself wasn’t impressive or open but for me that wasn’t the point. I just wanted a relaxing way to start my day.
MoreIt’s about a 15 min walk from the car park to the lighthouse through the marshland. The view is beautiful when you get there and you can sit and relax watching the views over the river. It was being painted when we visited so couldn’t access the deck round the back, but the front is just as good. There is a portaloo but it’s a bit ropey.
MoreNice but we trek in a half mile so we can see the lighthouse but it’s closed off to the public. So all you see is the building. Kinda waste of time!
MoreWhile driving to Vermont, this was a nice stop enroute where we did a walk in the reserve - The Lighthouse Trail, a ½ mile trail through the preserve to the end which has a lighthouse. There is a deck there with tables for a picnic and lovely views.
