tripadvisorClosed at about mile five. Kids called it boring but I enjoyed the ride.
MoreRoad this trail many, many times over past 10 years. I think it's an excellant suburban bike trail. Grant's Farm, Clydesdales, Grant Museum, ball fields, stream and hiway over pass make it very interesting ride with several resting/lunch spots. Easy access at many points make it very convenient. Flat service makes it easy, long distant trail makes it challanging. Two warning, it get busy with walkers and strollers after school and on weekends and there are several street crossings.
MoreEver since the trail opened close to a decade ago, it just grew like a weed. Now it connects the River Des Peres trail with the city of Kirkwood right at I-44. And there are plans to get it extended into downtown Kirkwood. Hiking trails are really useful. They help keep us out of trouble. Several St. Louis MetroBus routes serve the trail. Starting at Germania, it's served by MetroBus route number 9 Oakville. At Union Road, normally MetroBus route number 17 has limited service but it does stop at the trail. Just below Tesson Ferry is MetroBus route number 46. I have proposed to Metro to create a South County Connector which would be MetroBus route number 7 which would serve the trail on Tesshire and on Gravois. At Watson Road, MetroBus route number 21 serves the trail and the Applebee's that is next to the trail. At Big Bend, MetroBus route number 56 serves the trail. The new River Des Peres extension has an S turn that comes off Avenue I and jogs over towards I-55, and in that S turn, there is what some would call the Recycling Wall. So if you have something that needs to be recycled, stop at the S turn, poke your recyclables thru the wall and Republic Services handles the rest.
MoreNice paved trail for walking, jogging, or biking. Pretty busy on the weekend, but also with everyone getting outside with cabin fever from CoViD-19. Nonetheless, it was a beautiful day and everyone was out to take advantage of it. There are a number of stops at signs or traffic lights, so be careful crossing. Otherwise, a great trail to see neighborhoods and especially the Clydesdale horses along the way.
MoreWe use Grant's Trail regularly to bike ride and walk. While it can be quite crowded on the weekends, weekdays tend to be less busy. You can take your time and enjoy the Clydesdale horses as you pass by their home. The kids especially like this section. You are also able to stop and take in Grant's Farm or the U S Grant National Historic Site along the way. The 16+ mile round trip ride can be done in less than 2 hours, but be careful of the multiple street crossings. All in all a nice addition to the St Louis recreational trail scene.
