tripadvisorThe Foot Soldiers monument is aptly located in Constitution Park. It’s very nicely crafted and a prominent reminder to the past.
MoreStumbled upon this amazing monument while visiting downtown in the historic district. This is a great remembrance of those that contributed to civil rights in St. Augustines in the 1960’s. The monument is located near King’s street in the Plaza park.
MoreThe St. Augustine Foot Soldiers Monument is a wonderful tribute to all those who stood up and fought for civil rights. It is centrally located in St. Augustine and in the middle of a beautiful park. It is a real serene place to relax and enjoy a sunny day. It is worth to trip to see this beautifully crafted statue and think about the history that happened in that very spot.
MoreThe Foot Soldiers Monument in the main square in St. Augustine is dedicated to the Civil Rights protesters who marched and engaged in non-violent protest in the mid-1960s in an attempt to end segregation in the city. The monument is small, but it packs some power, and it faces the building where the Woolworths stood, and where foot soldiers worked to desegregate the lunch counter. It also is standing in the Plaza de la Constitution where slaves were auctioned and punished in the mid-1800s. Take a moment and think how hard the fight was/is.
