tripadvisorGoose Lake is a gorgeous little natural space in Anchorage. It's easily accessible by car or by foot, with a main road and parking lot just behind, and trails leading in from the University of Anchorage.Depending on the day, the crowd size can be a little higher, especially on the weekends, but it's a beautiful family-friendly place to hang out and enjoy the water (if it's summer, of course). I really enjoyed tanning and swimming in the lake, there's a little family of ducks that live there and their ducklings were quite bold walking right up onto the shore. I'd stay for a few hours at a time, and admission was entirely free. During the times that I went there were no staff, but there are bathroom facilities available.
MoreMy family & I were at Goose Lake Anchorage on June 21, 2019. We have 3 small kids. One is 2 years old and autistic and afraid of big dogs. We were only at the beach 15 minutes before another rude family showed up with big pit bull. That family tied their dog up by my family & left it in heat, without water, unattended, & it peed & pooped all over that area of beach. Then without provocation. Their wild acting dog bent sign post it was tied to & tried lunging at my son who was frozen in fear when confronted by dog and just noticed dog. I ran to son, shielded him & yelled for help from lifeguards. No one came over except the dog's family's young son who couldn't control dog. I finally gathered my family up. Secured them from dog & voiced a complaint about it to lifeguards. They did NOTHING TO ENFORCE THE NO ANIMALS LAW FOR THAT BEACH. It's the lifeguards job to protect the kids in the water & on that beach. My family & I are disabled & chose that beach because of the NO ANIMALS LAW there. My son suffered some trauma but is ok. I on the other hand am not over it. Will ANCHORAGE MUNICIPAL enforce this long time pre-existing law before a child actually gets hurt or even killed? MY FAMILY & I WILL RETURN SOON TO THE BEACH. BUT THIS TIME I'LL BE WEARING MY SERVICE PISTOL. I TAKE MY FAMILY'S SAFETY VERY SERIOUSLY AND EXPECT THE SAME FROM ANCHORAGE MUNICIPAL, AND THE LIFEGUARDS ON DUTY. I seriously hope this situation gets fixed before we return to beach in June 28 of 29, 2019. No Animals law means NO ANIMALS. Please be advised, that families like mine will protect themselves if the powers that be will not. Thank you for your time.
MoreWe stopped by here, but did not stay long as the wind was super COLD. There was a swimming area and a place for lifejackets (they probably stock it in the warm season). There was also a cute playground.
MoreI came here with my niece and she loved it as there were some ducklings nearby. I felt a bit unsafe at times but it is a goodplace with a group of friends.
MoreWhile checking out Anchorage I decided I wanted to visit at least one of the beach areas of the city to see what they were like. We drove to this beach on a lake and I was surprised that it was fairly busy. It was late June and the weather was really nice that year. They have a roped off area which I think is for kids but there were adults outside the roped off area with rafts. They also have a concession stand as well. Not sure if the water was cold or not as we weren't there to swim.
