tripadvisorI usually ride my bike solo and agree with the positive things other reviewers said, BUT I also agree about the homeless. Personally, I do not feel comfortable in those areas of the trail because of that. I don’t think it would concern me as much if I was riding with someone else.
MoreThe trail along the Arkansas River in downtown Wichita is pleasant for a stroll. We began at the Keeper of the Plains and walked downriver for about 20 minutes. People clearly use the river walk for exercise and picnics -- all very pleasant.
MoreI came to Kansas to hike some of its best trails and not all of them are in the wilderness. This is one of the best urban hikes anywhere. It is always great to hike waterfronts in any city but in Wichita, the hikes along the Arkansas and the Little Arkansas rivers are some of the most enjoyable. There is a great combination of urban scenery and wildlife. I was incredibly impressed by the amount and diversity of waterfowl. In fact, I saw my first wild wood duck walking the Arkansas. My morning walk was around 4 miles; however, there are miles on both rivers that you can adjust for your own hike. The best part is the pedestrian bridges and Keeper of the Plains monument at the convergence of the 2 rivers. For me the was my favorite thing I did in Wichita and I highly recommend you take the time to do.
MoreLovely area with beautiful vistas of the river and artwork along the path. Parking is free and you can make it a quick or leisurely visit.
MoreHomeless everywhere. Very scary. Where are the police? We saw homeless urinating in the river, and throwing trash in the river. NOT SAFE AT ALL.
