tripadvisorThe grotto is located down a little hill behind the basilica and overlooking St. Mary's Lake. Although I have never visited the original, I believe this is supposed to be a replica of that cave in France. It's much more about religion than photography, and the faithful can light candles and leave prayers. If you are not that religious, this might not appeal too much. On game day, this is a very crowded place with the fans. If you are doing a tour of the Notre Dame campus, this is a must-visit.
MoreWe drove to South Bend from Chicago which was easy drive using the toll road. The Studebaker museum was very nice with lots of model cars
MoreAbsolutely stunning. If visiting Notre Dame for any reason it’s worth a quick stop. They ask for a $3 donation to replace candles if you use one.
MoreWonderful place to pray. On the Notre Dame campus, there is parking nearby. Go in the main entrance and inform the attendant that you are going to the Grotto. They will give you a 2 hour parking pass for the Grotto.
MoreBeautiful space. Go when schools out so you have better parking options and less people. Open year round and is handicap accessible.
