Great hike close to the airport. The first mile was moderately strenuous, and became less strenuous after that point. Bring water. It was a warm 92°F Tuesday. I ran out of water on the way back. There is a water fountain at the parking lot. There are no restroom facilities. There are several connected trails to choose from. I went during the week at 4pm. The parking lot was mostly empty when I arrived and mostly full when I left at 6:45pm. There were bikers, runners, and hikers. The trails were not crowded. I saw a lot of lizards and chipmunks. There is a trail map at the parking lot. It would have been wise to take a picture of that before I started because I was not sure how all of the trails connected. Somehow I missed the Fat man's pass. The trails are well marked and there are great views of Phoenix.

This hike is nice and moderate. There's some gain in elevation but nothing too intensely steep. It's short, leading to longer trail. Because it's not a loop, you can start going further if you're still up for more and just turn back when your water is halfway empty.

Mormon Trailhead is a great entry point to one of my favorite destinations, the Hidden Valley. We have gone with younger children (5 - 11 years old) and they are able to manage the hike without much trouble. It's easy to spend a half hour just climbing (and sliding) once you get to the natural tunnel and Fat Man's Pass. Budget about 2.5 hours if you're taking your time, but you could spend much less time if so inclined. Parking lot can fill quickly, but there is street parking nearby - both free.

Local trailhead gets you into South Mountain network of trails - for miles of biking and hiking. This trailhead has some nice parking but no restroom facility. 1/2 up the trail and the views are great! Go to the top for 360 degree of Phx!

Not much to see for the first mile just up the side of hill. Hidden valley was a nice area to meander through with Rick tunnel and wide paths in the sunshine
