Development continues at a break-neck speed around here. But the benches and lawn invite visitors to slow down, look at the scenery, and relax. This time around, our family visit brought us here for a brief stop while Paradise Pizza (very near by) finished preparing our order.Although it was windy and cold, we found things to do and to see. Maxton Brown was a pilot in WW II who went missing in a flight over Africa but he was a local here. This park area was a favorite of his and he delighted in bird watching. This community remembers its heroes.

Upon passing through the traffic circle round-about (entry to Carlsbad), the park lies off to the left. It is defined by its wide expanse of well-maintained grassy terrain. Benches dot the split-log fence separation between the water/ecological preserve and the park.

At the point where the road from Oceanside veers off in two directions on its way to Carlsbad, (this park lies on the left of the road choices), this smaller park of grass offers nice places to sit and commune with nature. During our visit, maintenance crews were busy cutting grass, etc. so maybe we didn't experience anything out of the ordinary (like homeless people living here). At the end of the (proverbial) day, it was so relaxing to see expanses greenery and unadorned open space in a metro area which seems to grow more dense by the day. This is not a large park, no play equipment, or other niceties like restrooms but this is nature.
