Wow, I've never seen such a long wood suspension bridge. We drove over it as there is no sign saying not to, Hearing the tires on the wood was such an amazing sound. We enjoyed being the only ones out there and looking at the river that was mostly dried up. Very cool thing to look up and there was a sign describing it.

Everyone who watches Texas Country Reporter (as we regularly do) will enjoy walking across the bridge used for the show's opening. We approved from the north of San Saba and had to drive a few miles on a caliche road in order to reach the bridge, but the road was not bad at all (we were expecting lots of loose gravel, but that was not the case). Because of structural issues, the bridge has been closed to traffic but it is open for walking (we were there in mid-December). If you are near Gatesville or San Saba, it is worth the drive to experience this 1939 suspension bridge, one of the last of its kind in Texas.

The bridge is closed as of Sept 2020 due to recent structural damage according to the Goldthwaite Eagle newspaper. It is expected to open once the damages is assessed/repaired. You can still walk across it.

26 Sept 2020, bridge was closed to through traffic, not sure why but it was blockaded off. Have been there before and its a cool place to go, when its not closed.

I love visiting the Regency Suspension Bridge and taking pictures of the bridge and the Colorado River. The bridge is well hidden and peaceful. A must see visit for tourists and driving over the one vehicle bridge.
