I really enjoy a hike at Larus. I probably hike there once every month or two, and I usually bring my dog. There are a couple downsides to this park: traffic noise from Chippenham Parkway and people who walk with their dogs off leash. The dogs off leash is a personal pet peeve as a parent of a kid who can be nervous around dogs. The most interesting things to me are the huge rocks and the creek, so it is less fun when it hasn't rained in a long time. There is certainly some repetitive scenery typical of a central Virginia Piedmont woodland, but it has some magical spots that feel like being briefly transported into Narnia. At those moments, the traffic fades, the water rushes through the rocks, and the wildflowers bloom. There is magic there if you are willing to look for it.

Lots of trails, lots of shade, very clean (not much litter and saw no dog waste), some minor points of interest (streams, large rocks, culvert etc). However, lots of highway noise. We hiked over 3 miles across different trails and the scenery felt fairly repetitive. Lots of views of folks' backyards as well. We parked at the South trailhead on Hayden Hill Ln and did not venture north of Chippenham, so maybe the park looks different up there.I always love any walk in the woods, and greatly appreciated the shade on a hot day but verdict from my companions was boring. Maybe more fun on a mountain bike.
