tripadvisorGreat leaf viewing, well marked even trail, turn around when ready. We went to 11 000 feet elevation. Loved it! Short beautiful drive from Santa Fe
MoreWe hiked four miles of this trail today. Road access was no problem. They are still resurfacing but today only one lane was closed for a short piece of the drive. Aspens are past their peak but there were still swathes of them in peak color and it was beautiful. Very nice moderate hike if you’re just getting used to the altitude.
MoreThis is one of our favorite hikes during our annual Fall in Santa Fe trip. But this Fall the Aspen Vista area is only accessible on Sundays for the foreseeable future because of road resurfacing from Big Tesuque Campground all the way up to the Ski Basin. No warning or publicity until 2 miles before the work zone instead of down at the start of the road up.
MoreWe've all heard of the Colorado Aspens, but the New Mexico forest are just as stunning. You can go for as short or long as you want on the Vista trail to enjoy the scenes. I'd recommend this trail even outside of fall. in October, the trail is quite busy and you won't have any solitude or privacy, but it is still more than worth the visit. For the visitors, living at sea level, like us, recognize the altitude is fairly high and therefore you want to take it slow.
MoreVery nice trail with restrooms near the trailhead, just off the road up to the parking lot for the ski lift, photo taken 5 days before Thanksgiving; ski Santa Fe not yet open.
