tripadvisorGreat trail if you like seeing granite rock formations. We loved the scenery and rented ebikes from Prescott ebikes which really was a great experience in itself. We plan on doing this again. You can split to the right and see a little bit of Iron King trail also to see the old RailRoad cars (a must see) from the early Prescott-Phoenix-Santa Fe RR days.
MoreWe arrived here before 11 a.m. on a Sunday morning. The trailhead is located about 2 - 3 miles from Prescott, just off a main highway. There is a sizeable parking lot which charges $3 per day. There is also a bike repair station and restrooms at the trailhead. We walked for about an hour. You first head downhill to the lake level and spend the first 1/3 mile or so getting to the lake. You then hike along the lake until a spur trail offers the opportunity to hug the shoreline and scramble over some rocks. It wasn't too challenging, but it was also not a completely level trail. The scenery is nice - the lake, odd boulder formations, occasional wildlife (including a bald eagle!), some ranchers fixing a fence just off one trail, and a fair number of bikers (both manual and electric) on the main trail. This was a worthwhile stop and we all enjoyed our hike here.
MoreThere are a few options for getting on this trail. I've started at two points. One at a city parking lot for the trail that costs $3.00 and one off of Hwy 89 that is a .6 mile spur to the trail. The trail follows an old rail line and is very wide and hard packed. Gets a lot of use but I've never found it too crowded or too many bikes as some have complained about. It also connects to the Iron King Trail . Options for single track side trails that range from easy to difficult and make the hike interesting. The granite boulders and rock formations (Point of Rocks especially) near Watson Lake are very pretty. Recommend for an easy hike/walk or bike ride.
MoreOne of our highlights of our entire stay in Prescott, was renting a fat tire e-bike from Prescott e-bike and doing the Peavine trail. The scenery was stunning and the service superb. I recommend the 2 hour tour.
MoreWalked a short distance from trail head and want to go back and rent bikes. Wonderful trail with gorgeous views and friendly folk.
