Lots of walking trails and bike trails. Fishing is done from boats which can be rented and from the shore. There is a store and food for sale. Many picnic tables.

Our visit to Lake Hodges was a bust. The suspension bridge is not really a suspension bridge. There is no water in the lake that we saw. Trails are not very well marked. We did see a roadrunner there, which was neat. Disappointing.

I was through the area on a mountain bike and really had a fun time. Beautiful scenery, nice trail. Take water, as it's typically warm. There were port-a-potties available.

We love the trails that line the lake. There is great bass fishing. It can get very hot at summer so bring water.

Lake Hodges may not look like much from the I15 freeway especially with the recent years of drought but it looks much prettier from Del Dios Road - from the I15, exit Via Rancho Parkway and head west and then turn left on Del Dios Road towards Del Mar. It’s a really nice and scenic drive. There are a few ways to get to Lake Hodges from Del Dios Road, look for signs but the one I used was Rancho Drive which takes you down to Lake Drive. There is a small unpaved parking lot just opposite the Hernandez Hideaway restaurant. From this point, there are a couple of hiking trails that will take you to the edge of the lake with awesome views of the lake with rolling hills in the backdrop. If you choose not to hike, you can drive along Lake Drive which is very scenic as well. As of this writing San Diego just received a lot of rain in the past few months so the lake is fuller than before and it’s really a great time to go.
