Excellent authentic and engaging walking tour of Tremé. Wonderful value for money. I highly recommend it. Our guide Erin was clearly passionate and very knowledgeable about her subject matter.. She delivered the tour creatively, and honestly and managed to not shy away from sensitive topics without alienating her audience. This tour should be promoted more for what it is, an authentic and essential history of New Orleans brought to life in a captivating, accessible and entertaining fashion.I think it should also commence at Louis Armstrong park as opposed to Vodoo Lounge as the lounge does not feature in the tour, but could give the impression that it does as a starting point.

Treme is the oldest African American neighborhood in the United States. Louis Armstrong Park is located here & has many outdoor movies & concerts. This neighborhood began as a place for free people of color in the 1700’s. New Orleans was the ONLY place that former slaves could actually own land. It is filled with jazz clubs, museums & history. They have numerous second line parades & jazz funerals here. I was also informed that they hold Sunday Funday. After church they have parades & parties in the streets. St. Louis Cemetery #1 is also located in this neighborhood (the burial site of voodoo queen Marie Laveau). You can see this neighborhood on numerous tours too. Oh, this is also where jazz music started!
