For years, tourists have flocked to the artistic district in La Jolla. Meanwhile, Solana Beach has remained a relatively less-crowded venue for those interested in design. It's located on Cedros Street, just south of Lomas Santa Fe Drive. The overhead signs welcome discriminating clientele into the area, which features scores of art galleries and custom-designed furniture stores.

tripadvisorHave you ever seen that commercial about mudwtr and the guy is clearly in way over his head. That is a derivative of this place. The stores will try to sell you a vase for $216.00 and state it is art. There is alcohol everywhere, which seems necessary for this type of buyer/seller market.
MoreI live nearby and the Cedros Design District is bigger and better than ever. In recent years there are new furniture stores, a great pet store, a popular women's shoe store, and several great coffee shops. There's the BellyUp Cafe and Madeline's Frech Cafe for lunch. The area is one block from the Solana Beach train station, the first Amtrak stop north from downtown San Diego. Solana Beach has recently expanded its beach, a 3 block walk from Cedros, making it one of most beautiful in the area.
MoreWe really enjoyed walking though the art galleries definitely exquisite selection of artist as well beautiful and not very crowded beaches. Only downside we couldn’t find a very nice hotel but it’s a true gem beach town in California
MoreDay trip To Solana beach from Orange County- easy one hour drive to a quaint California beach town that has retained its charm and beauty. Nice walking biking trail through town, some good surfing spots and Cedric street- full of shops and restaurants galore. Parking easy to find mid-week and mid-day too! Cute little town and scenic drive.
MoreThis district lies on the other side of the railroad tracks from Hwy 101 and stretches between Lomas Santa Fe and (after a bit of a residential stretch) Via Del Valle. The street bears the name: South Cedros Avenue. It is also right by the train station.Any and all of our Solana Beach excursions have always taken us to the Design District to walk the streets, admire the public art, frequent some of or favorite haunts (some of which are no longer there), and maybe time this all with the weekly Sunday Farmers Market event. All the good stuff is still there (sort of): an ample much larger-than-life Wonder Woman sculpture will always be a favorite of ours. But the old men and the life guard towers at the end of the Design District are comical and great fun. Along the way, there are murals and other artistic expressions so worth to still include this in a visit to Solana Beach.A sign in the theater marquee expresses frustration at the long lasting pandemic repercussions and several shops have either closed their doors or succumbed to a higher and better use (or so we can only surmise).Even the crosswalks are art statements. Maybe post-Covid, things will pick up a bit and there will be better days ahead for the District.
