On a rainy Friday night, we attended a play at this historic theater. The marquee sparkled through the rain, making it and our evening seem more festive. In the lobby, a classical musician played his cello, accompanied by a singer and there was a small bar set up where we could purchase a glass of wine. We enjoyed seeing the play - Barefoot in the Park, which caused me to laugh out loud many times. The set was well designed and looked just like a small 1960s New York fifth floor apartment – with no elevator in the building.

How valuable a piece of Oceanside this is; a place for young and not-so-young to perform. Real theater is the heart of a community and it is to Oceanside's credit that it has kept it beating. It's such a lovely art-deco style old-time building and it is remarkably well maintained.

Local productions play here at this old, but restored, theatre. I enjoy seeing musicals here, and will continue to do so.

My wife and I were extremely fortunate to bump into the Tony Award Winning musical comedy, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee this past Saturday. On our vacations we always try to attend one life show and often are quite disappointed but not on this occasion. The acting was great, as was the music and singing in this quirky and highly entertaining presentation. Everything was extremely professional. We laughed throughout the entire show, while at the same time having our heart strings pulled in empathy as the characters' real life came into focus. The Star Theater was built in 1956 and re-opened in 1998 and houses numerous shows throughout the year. It is our view that if you are a traveler or local that enjoys quality theater, enjoy an evening at the Star. Oh and by the way, tickets are only $18 for adults. Way to go STAR!
