tripadvisorWe explored this Museum, especially the current exhibit Women in Focus. I expected a display of works by women and was delighted to find a historical pictorial of teh evolution and entry of women into the field.Lots of black and white pictures that can be appreciated in less than one hour. The gift shop offers several unique camera gifts.I caught a glimpse of an upcoming installation in progress.Entry to this museum is free, even though it is part of the San Diego Museum of Art , which has an entry fee and is part of NARM membership.Accessible venue entry, exit and through out venue.
MoreFor a museum dedicated to photography, I expected more interesting exhibits. The showcases seemed rather basic; I get that art is subjective but a lot of it didn't have much to say visually. The Holly Roberts exhibit was just plain bad. Can easily see everything in an hour.
MoreThis is a fantastic little museum with wonderful photos on display.Entrance is complimentary so you have nothing to lose.15 minutes out to do it for a thorough visit.
MoreWe to tucked into this quaint museum ready to enjoy. The student work was worth seeing. Very imaginative! Most of the main gallery works were too political. I would have preferred more vision and less rhetoric.
MoreFirst: If you travel and you love museums -- especially art museums -- look into getting a NARM Assocation pass from a participating museum nationwide. They get you into around 1,000 museums for free -- including four here in Balboa Park. (Unlike a lot of cities, San Diego museums don't accept each other's NARM passes.)I've been to MoPA twice. Even on a weekend, the museum was fairly empty, which I don't understand... each time, it had three excellent exhibitions. Because I used my NARM pass, I'm not sure what the admission price is, but I think it was quite reasonable. The Museum store has interesting and fun things related to photography.
