St. Peter's Italian Roman Catholic Church's beginnings date back to 1882 when the first Italian family came to Portland. It's a simple, beautiful brick structure with a front rosette stained glass window and carved wood doors with concrete engraved arches above. The interior includes 14 Stations of the Cross that were handcrafted in Italy, handpainted murals, and a santuary, pulpit and baptismal font made of Carrara marble. We went to their annual Italian street bazaar and had a great time -- there were plenty of games, raffles, food booths, items from Italy for sale, music, homemade Italian pastries, and a religious procession.
