tripadvisorTruthfully it’s not a major attraction in Louisville and is tucked between a couple of buildings in the popular Highlands area. Although I really love the Highlands this is not one of Louisville’s more impressive murals. And we do have several that are vastly superior to this particular one. That being said I was saddened to see that someone recently vandalized the mural by throwing orange paint on the image of the legendary Muhammad Ali. I have attached a photo of this I took the other day. Let’s hope that this is repaired sometime soon for residents and tourists alike.
MoreI just saw this again today and still believe it’s a poorly done mural. It’s on the side of the Sweet Spot Candy Store and in the Highlands. I guess because it is in the popular Highlands is the only reason it qualifies as a tourist attraction. Can you truly recognize anyone in the mural aside from Lincoln who isn’t from Louisville? There are better murals in the city worth photographing especially in Butchertown. Ali is the only native Louisvillian in the mural. Well, maybe the horse-who knows? Colonel Sanders is actually a native of Indiana(Henryville).
MoreThis is an interesting portrait of famous Kentuckians that they would put on a Mount Rushmore replica. It is hard to find as it is between two buildings but worth a drive by.
MoreThis mural is actually tucked between two buildings in the popular Highlands neighborhood. Personally I don't think the likenesses resemble the people represented. Sure, it's nice to have murals in the area but it's not worth a stop just to see this unless you are shopping or dining nearby.
MoreThe Kentucky Rushmore Mural, located on the side of the Sweet Spot Candy Shoppe building at 1583 Bardstown Road, next to the Doo-Wop Shop, near the intersection with Bonnycastle Avenue, is a well done mural featuring four of Kentucky’s favorite “sons”; Muhammad Ali, Abraham Lincoln, Colonel Sanders and a Thoroughbred. While the mural is interesting, the best part is the neighborhood that it is in, Highland, with its many locally owned restaurants, pubs and specialty shops along Bardstown Road from Gardiner Lane in the southeast to Baxter Avenue and Lexington Road to the northwest near historic Cave Hill Cemetery. It is a great place to stroll, checking out the shops, get something good to eat, enjoy a drink with a friend or simply get an ice cream at one of the number ice cream parlors in the area.
