The Oyster Bay Railroad Museum is a wonderful place for train lovers and curious visitors alike. The staff are incredibly friendly, kind, and eager to share stories about the Long Island Rail Road. The volunteers’ passion brings the history to life and makes the experience personal and memorable. On top of the many historic exhibits on offer at the OBRM, they also feature in their yard just a short walk away a pair of 1:1 scale locomotive simulators in which you can operate a train along a digital version of the Long Island Rail Road, which is both a fun and informative experience for all! I encourage future visitors to make a donation above the minimal entry cost in order to help them out with their upkeep and future projects. A great place for railfans, families and anyone with an interest in history!

Two year old absolutely adored the model train set up and train table. The museum had some interesting displays and very clean bathrooms but it was somewhat cluttered and not cohesive.

This volunteer led museum is a work in progress. It concentrates on the Long Island Rail Road in a friendly, family welcoming way. It is located on two sites and is worth taking a look.

Discovered this small museum entirely by accident when visiting Oyster Bay. The museum is trying to raise money to restore the former LIRR station building to be its new home. All staff we encountered were very friendly, knowledgable and clearly passionate about railways and preservation, as well as the history behind their local station. The yard is probably the highlight, and we enjoyed chatting with staff, seeing rolling stock being worked on and being able to go inside cabs etc. This is not a big museum, but well worth a visit if nearby.

Went to the Train Museum several years during the Oyster Bay Festival. Interesting. If you're interested learning about trains you won;t be disappointed.
