One of the benches in Viretta Park. I believe if you were to sit on the bench and look forward,

House is not open to the public, don’t waste your time. All that there is to see is a memorial.

As a Nirvana fan from the very beginning, getting to the Kurt Cobain memorial bench at Viretta Park, near his house, was something that had been a long time coming for me. It was one of those places I knew I wanted to visit while we were in Seattle, not as a tourist attraction in the usual sense, but simply to pay my respects. One thing I would say to anyone visiting is please be respectful of the nearby private residence. It is very close, and there may be a temptation to go and take photographs, but this is someone's private home and the circumstances surrounding Kurt's death make it particularly important to give the residents their privacy. The memorial bench is the appropriate place to remember him.I picked up a sunflower from Pike Place Market and we got an Uber over to Viretta Park. Seeing the bench in person was quite emotional, particularly seeing all the handwritten messages and tributes that people have left over the years. What I really liked was how much care has gone into the place. There are handwritten notes, artwork, carved messages and painted tributes, and when we visited they had clearly been respected and left intact. It doesn't feel like a place that has been turned into some sort of commercial attraction. It's simply a quiet place where fans have left something behind. We also saw people bringing their children, which I thought was really nice. Nirvana's music has obviously carried through generations, and it was good to see that continuing. For me, this is a must-see for any Nirvana fan, and probably for any serious music fan visiting Seattle. It's a chance to stop for a while, reflect and pay your respects. For me, taking that sunflower from Pike Place and leaving it at the bench made the visit feel very personal. It's a simple memorial, but a really meaningful one, and I'm glad we made the effort to go.

I agree with what people have said, you won’t see the house. The hedges are so high you can’t see a thing. It’s a beautiful neighborhood, right along the lake. I didn’t think it was hard to find, but I use Google Maps even on the iPhone. I found it worth visiting.

The house has had new ownership for a long time and they have made numerous changes to the property. They have had to add layers of security to deal with the many people (myself included) that come here to seek closure. My suggestion is to skip looking for views of the house. Go to the adjacent park and checkout the benches. The heartfelt memorials left there and the view out over the water made me feel better...thinking that this was a place of peace for Kurt.

Pretty cool to sit at the benches.. parking was good, go south past the benches with water to your left youll find a spot. Can really only see the rooftops of house, understandable. If your a 90's grunge fan do a drive by or chill a bit and give your respects..
