Housed in the only remaining Carnegie Library building in Anaheim, this museum deals both with the rich cultural history of Anaheim and of the world. The volunteers who work there value educating the younger generation about their fine city, which was founded in the mid-1850s by German winemakers who wanted to sell their product to citizens of Los Angeles. Muzeo also features rotating strange and wonderful exhibits that make this a truly fascinating museum.

tripadvisorThis was a surprisingly great visit! We've been wanting to go check it out for years and finally stopped by. There are two parts or buildings to the museum. You buy the tickets in the main building and adjacent to the ticket counter, is the first exhibit. The first exhibit in the main building was Victorian America. Each room discusses life during Victorian America centered around death/remembrance. The exhibits have plaques that accompany each item. There are about 4-5 rooms in the main building that have items. You go at your own pace, there are no personal museum guides or audio guides. The rooms are dark to go with the current theme, but bright enough for you to see the exhibits and read the plaques. The current exhibit contains battlefield medical equipment, burial casket, elaborate mourning outfits, and more. It was fascinating and eye opening at the same time. The other building outside contains 3 rooms of exhibits on the 2nd floor. You basically pay for both buildings when you visit. Two of the 3 rooms are changed out ever so often. You have to look at their website to see how long the rooms will be occupied for and when the new exhibits will arrive. The one room that isn't changed out is the room that contains the history of Anaheim. There's a lot of history in the Anaheim room that talks about growing grapes/wine, to Disneyland, to the annual Halloween parade, to original settlements in the area, etc...During our visit, the other two rooms contained the current exhibits: (1) Mahtab Mohammadi, an Iranian American artist. (2)Rubber Menagerie: The Squeaky Toys of Edward Mobley. This place is worth the visit. Its conveniently located by downtown Anaheim and walking distance to all the restaurants and stores on Center st. Promenade. Lastly, the Anaheim Heritage Center is located in the same building as the main museum exhibit. Think of it as a library, you can walk in there and find things about Anaheim. You can ask the front desk about any inquiries that you may have or always wanted to know and they will gladly help you research what you're looking for. If they have physical evidence such as newspaper clippings, they will gladly share.
MoreWhile here, I saw exhibits of the city's history, such as citrus packing, which fascinated me, as well as a model train exhibit, which was nice. I also saw paintings, which were quite beautiful. Overall, it's a good place to see, but don't expect too much.
MoreThe current main exhibit is train and holiday oriented. It would be perfect for families with children 10 and younger. They had a train to ride around the block on the outside. Lots of train sets and train memorabilia on the inside. They also had a building next door that had other exhibits. One was about Anaheim, and the others were art exhibits. The exhibits were unique and meaningful.Apparently on Dec 7, 2019 they are having a dog thingy that sounded fun too.
MoreMuzeo Museum and Cultural Center is located in downtown Anaheim near the intersection of Broadway and Anaheim Boulevard. There are two galleries at Muzeo, the Main Gallery (which has an admission fee and houses rotating exhibits) and the Carnegie Gallery (which offers free admission and houses both rotating exhibits and a permanent exhibit on the history of Anaheim). NOTE that admission fees vary with each Muzeo Main Gallery exhibit. Check the museum’s website before visiting to verify the special exhibit is something you’d like to see. Park in the structure on Center Street Promenade – while most of the local businesses validate your parking for two hours, Muzeo validates for the whole day. My daughter and I took advantage of this perk by walking to lunch a block-and-a-half away at the Anaheim Packing District following our museum visit. We came to view the Main Gallery’s exhibit “I am an American: Japanese Incarceration in a Time of Fear.” The exhibit was edifying, easy to navigate, well organized and tastefully displayed, and it didn’t take all day to go through it all. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed our visit to Muzeo and would be willing to return.
MoreThis is a very small museum across the street from the Anaheim City Hall. The modern section houses changing exhibits that you have to purchase a ticket to see. The older section, in the former Anaheim library has a permanent display about the history of Anaheim, and another display that changes, but does not require purchasing a ticket to see. I found the history of Anaheim displays to be the most interesting on this visit. The paintings displayed for free and the Chicano art collection of Cheech Marin were nice, but each began to take on a sameness after viewing about half to three quarters of each display. Depending on what might be in future displays could easily make a difference in what one thinks about this museum.
