It seems that Capital Springs State Park is very new. I visited on Good Friday. The prairie had been burned off. No flowers or trees were budded out yet. It was a good day to hike here though. Not to hot, not to cold and no bugs. Bird watching is pretty good here. I saw lots of ducks, several geese, 2 sandhill cranes, wild turkeys and several nut hatches. The soothing music of frogs in the background was plentiful today. I specifically went here to visit Hog Island. I'm an explorer at heart and the journey to Hog Island was great. The end of the trail will reward you at the shore of Lake Waubesa. I've been to a lot of islands in my time. I'd have to rate this one as the least glamorous of them all. But hey, it sounds pretty cool if someone asks you where did you go on Good Friday and you can honestly say you hiked to Hog Island!
