tripadvisorThis place is incredible. Not only home to the Washington Nationals Double-A team, the Harrisburg Senators who play at FNB Field on the island, there is mini-golf, a beach club overlooking the Susquehanna River, a train that is perfect for young kids that take you around the island, bike and walking paths, refreshment stands, plenty of restrooms, picnic tables and benches, the place is spotless, the views are incredible, there's even a playground for the little ones. The day we were there, plenty of families walking, biking, strolling with the dog, having a picnic, it was wonderful. You forget immediately that you're in the city of Harrisburg. This little oasis within a five-minute walk from downtown and right off of Front Street, is the perfect place to visit to get away from it all. Highly recommend...and bring your camera too! If you're going to drive, just take the Market Street Bridge two blocks from the Walnut Street Bridge. Plenty of parking once on the island. Bring your walking shoes and have a super day.
MorePretty much everything is worn out and outdated. Parking and traffic flow are ridiculously sad. There is a lack of adequate handicapped parking and van accessible spots. Beach club had one handicap spot which had an illegal parker while open spots were blocked off with cones - ADA concerns here. Ballpark handicapped parking is overflowing on game days, a maze to escape, and a difficult walk to get into the stadium.
MoreIs a pretty good walking distance from parking, but when you get there the people are friendly and mini golf is fun with family. Don't be alarmed, it's at the end of the road behind the baseball field.
MoreQuick scenic river walks. Nice bridges. The walking bridge has metal grating over half of the path so one can see through it and view the water beneath.
MoreWe had a blast walking around City Island. We crossed the bridge talked with some fisherman and watched the sunset.
