Cold Spring Tavern Mountain ·$$

Located up a windy road atop San Marcos Pass, this local landmark has been here since the 1860's, when it was a way station for weary travelers making there way over the pass. Feel like you are stepping back in time as you enter the restaurant set in a historic, vine covered log cabin with four fireplaces and a menu that features wild game among other things. The tavern features live music, an outdoor fire pit to keep you warm on those chilly evenings and weekly tri-tip BBQ every Sunday that is not to be missed. Dinner is from 5p every evening.

this listing is under Things to Do and this place is definitely that! If you are going by on the weekend stop by for live music. Check the website out for timing and we recommend going on the early side because parking is on the difficult side. If it is midweek just go check it out because it is very interesting. There is a special bridge in the area as well. If you have time just drive a bit and see what is there.

A lovely place to visit with original old buildings, we sat outside eating our ribs and chicken and it was a lovely spot, our waitress Ashley was really nice, would go again, only issue is the parking, it has a tiny uneven car park so you have to park on the side of the road , that's the only down fall with this place.

Cold Spring Tavern is a charming historic spot tucked away in the mountains. The rustic setting, delicious food (especially the tri-tip sandwiches), and cozy old-world atmosphere make it a must-visit. Perfect for a unique dining experience with a touch of California history

My boyfriend made plans for us to go away for the weekend on the 4th of July to Santa Barbara and a friend of ours recommended this hidden gem to us. We had no idea that he had found one of the greatest quaint tavern that’s like literally off the beaten path up in the Los Padres National Forest. It is like in the middle of no where up in the mountains but rest assured that it’s worth the drive up there. All the staff are super welcoming and friendly, and it’s a dog friendly place. It has a bar area and the restaurant has inside seating as well as outside seating which seems that people prefer the outside seating. We both ordered the tri tip sandwich that’s served on a delicious toasted bolillo bread. The side of coleslaw was good but the potato salad was more scrumptious. It seems that they are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesday so double check before making the drive up there.

Nice hidden gem. Found this place after our bike ride up Camino Cielo. The onion rings are out of this world. If you happen to be in the area, I strongly recommend stopping. It can get very busy with only on-street parking available to customers.
