Spanning over 17,400 square feet (1616 square meters), the Bakersfield Museum of Art is a visual treat for art lovers. It features two large galleries and two smaller ones of stunning art mainly from regional artists as well traveling exhibitions. The museum also has several lovely, well-manicured gardens which display various sculptures and other media. In addition, the two classrooms and banquet hall within the building make this the perfect place for hosting weddings, mini-conferences, and receptions.

tripadvisorThe museum is quite small. Discounted admission for students and seniors, but NOT free for under 18. We visited on a Wednesday morning, few other museums in the area were not open on Wednesdays so not much choice. There are two big antique stores across the street and nice creek side walking path with a park and a playground. There was plenty of free parking. The sculpture garden has a separate entrance and seems to have free entry. As far as the museum exhibits go, like I said, there is not a lot. But what they have was very nice modern art. We loved it, even my teenager had good time. We spent about an hour there. Not much of a gift shop, no café.
MoreThis museum is rather small, in fact we had a little difficulty establishing the proper parking and main entry off the side street. It does not take long to view (aside from sitting on the benches to ponder) given the size. However, the quality of the work by California artists was fantastic and well worth the stop. Perhaps the first time we have enjoyed an art museum alone. Very intimate and peacefully inspiring. Staff was very kind and helpful.
MoreGreat place to kill an hour or two, especially when it is hot out. Very quiet and peaceful, located right beside a park. Be sure to check the website ahead of time to see what exhibits are currently being shown.
MoreAlthough this museum is very small, the quality of art that is displayed there is exceptional. I'll never forget when they brought the Harlem Renaissance collection. I love to see diversity and different points of view.
MoreCute entrance with ducks in front, nice design of the museum with a great variety of art in a compact space. Friendly staff.
