Without a doubt, this is a moving, approachable, honest review of slavery in the United States. The docent who toured our group was excellent. The exhibits are so very well done. This horrible past is given in a educational and society approach. It is not sugar-coated review. It allows personal reflection and understanding. It should be a must see for anyone who wishes to learn the truth about our past. It is also very affordable with admission for about $10, and $8 for seniors. They have a small but inclusive gift shop.

This museum tells about an important chapter in American history: the escape of enslaved people to freedom in Canada via the Underground Railroad. Primary source photos and documents enrich the storytelling. You emerge right by the bridge where Harriet Tubman escorted scores of people to their freedom - breathtaking. The end part connects African Americans’ freedom struggle with those of other people. So grateful for this meaningful new museum.

When we went back for our car, we found a plaque about the Underground Railroad River Crossing. People who could swim would get to the other side of the river as Canada did not believe in slaves. For those who could not swim, Americans who cared for this poor people transported them to the other side by boat to freedom. That was cool to find this plaque. Wow!
