A unique monument inside the larger Papago Park worth a short climb up to if you're visiting the park already. There is a small parking lot right at the bottom of the short climb up to the monument. At the top of the hill it's located on offers some really nice views of the surrounding area and some distance photos of the Hole in the Rock point of interest.

It’s part of the entire Papago Park system and is close to Hole in the Wall. Take water as terrain easy but hot. It’s a tiled pyramid with Hunt and his wife. Beautiful scenery of park and Phoenix.

We were visiting Papago Park, hiking among the variety of ponds. As part of our walk, we went up the hill to Hunt’s Tomb. This is a funky white pyramid high on a hill above the Park. Doesn’t fit there at all. But there it is! We walked up to the Tomb. From the area around the Tomb, there is a great view of the city. And below us we could see into the Phoenix Zoo and see the giraffes. We heard lions. But didn’t see them. Still pretty strange and out of place. But neat nonetheless.

Hunt's tomb is a pyramid shaped memorial dedicated to Governor George W. P. Hunt, the first Governor of Arizona who served a record number of terms in the same position. This is located inside the Papago Park, there are spaces to park nearby and it is a short hike up to the tomb itself. There are signs posted nearby which contain information about the tomb and Governor Hunt as well. It was under his gubernatorial reign that women in Arizona achieved the right to vote in elections. When I went early on a weekend morning, there was no one else. The lack of a crowd, light breeze, an aesthetic memorial and the view from the top combine to make this a worthwhile place to visit.

We saw this from the zoo earlier in the week but didn't have time to check it out that day. Went back later in the week, hiked up to Hole in the Rock, and then over to the tomb. I was amazed at the great views and the fact that no other people were up there! So we sat and enjoyed watching the animals at the zoo with our binoculars. Informative signs explain the tomb and it's easy to park and walk to. Worth stopping by if your already in the park.
