Great theatre! Nicely renovated and comfortable. Shows a very wide variety of films including current 1st run box office hits as well as foreign (Czech, Polish, French, Israeli, Danish, Iranian, Moroccan films among others), old, documentaries, and offbeat films. Films are sometimes introduced by people connected with their making. A first-rate community venture which allows us to travel in both time and place without leaving our seats. Highly-recommend!

Lovely nonprofit theater showing a cool combo of hits, international films, art films and indie films. I became a member because the perks are great, free tickets Monday and Sunday!

So happy this indy theater shows art films. Am a regular. They have a tiny cafe in the front of the house that serves beer and wine, candy, and popcorn (obviously). Saw Poor Things and Zone recently on their big screen. Easy parking and nice small restaurants in the neighborhood.

Based on stellar reviews, we went to see Past Luves at the Avalon. The movie didn't live up to the advance notices for any of the four of us. But that's not the theater's faylt: The Avalin has been an indie/art film movie house on Connecticut Avenue for longer than I've lived in the area (since 1969) and there's a reason it's stayed alive; when they ran into financial hardship a few decades ago, the community swung in to the rescue, financing restoration work and turning it into a much-loved jewel in the neighborhood. A fine place to see films a bit off the beaten path.

I used to love this theater before the covid tyranny. President Biden has said the pandemic is over but the face diaper rule is still in effect at the Avalon. This is very sad because I will not go along with it. Face diapers make you sick and are all about compliance to the New World Order (the New Normal), the World Health Organization and total control over every aspect of our daily lives. I will not comply.
