tripadvisorI have always enjoyed viewing the art work displayed in banks, hospitals and government buildings. There always seems to be something very special about it, possibly because it is an unexpected delight to my senses. When I walk into a commercial art gallery or a museum, I expect to see unique and visually stunting pieces of art, but not so when I go to city hall to obtain a building permit. What I like about the exhibit currently on display, A Walk Through Fairview Park is a 360° artistic view of Fairview Park through the eyes of the artist, local photographer Sharon Hurd. Fairview Park, located at 2525 Placentia Avenue, Costa Mesa, California, is a nature lovers paradise! The main entrance is nestled on a hill in Laguna Beach giving views of the ocean on one side, and the Saddleback mountains on the other. It is mother nature's playground and retreat for city dwellers. A great place for hiking, mountain biking, running, exploring, meditating, and practically any family outing you can imagine, including free concerts in the park during the summer. Artist Sharon Hurd captured the raw beauty of the park and has displayed it for the rest of us to enjoy in an unlikely setting -- Costa Mesa City Hall. I was personally touched by this exhibit because I was married outdoors in a public park in La Costa, California and I vividly recall going to the city hall in La Costa to obtain the necessary permits to use the park area for our wedding. The City of Costa Mesa is no different, park use permits for groups are obtained at City Hall. The fine art pieces on display by Hurd reflect the results we can see in nature following a rainstorm. Her images are striking and stir the emotions. What is even better to know is that this photographer is donating 50% of all proceeds from the sale of her displayed work to Fairview Park Preservation Alliance and Trellis -- she is supporting the beauty in her community! Art on the Fifth, was established in April of 2017, a collaborative effort of the mayor at the time, Mayor Katrina Foley, and the city’s Cultural Arts Committee chair, Andrea Marr. The ultimate goal was to make City Hall’s fifth level more warm and welcoming and showcase the unique work of the local artists. Art on the Fifth is a quarterly exhibit that offers local artists the opportunity to display and sell their artwork. I highly recommend this little gallery.
