1.8 mile hike that was relatively easy for my 2 grand-daughters (ages 4 & 5) and myself to comfortably complete in little over an hour mid-afternoon today. The weather cooperated, partly to mostly cloudy with a gentle breeze and temps in mid 70’s. We didn’t see another person on the trail. Did see several birds of various species but no other wildlife. Benches are located around the trail offering opportunities to rest and snack along the way. Overall a nice way to spend an afternoon with the grandkids.

This reserve is built on the remnants of a former airfield that was used for gunnery training in WW2, but is now a variety of habitats. There are trails linking the various remains of the gun emplacements, some flexipaved and others rough tracks through the grass and wet lands. The preserve has been thoughtfully constructed and interpretive boards are very useful. There also are boardwalks, seats and a well laid out car park with picnic seats and a toilet.
