Built in 1924, Sacred Heart Cathedral is one of the few catholic churches in the area. Considered to be one of the smallest cathedrals in the country, the Sacred Heart Cathedral was constructed in the Neo-Gothic style using stone as the primary material. Despite its size, the cathedral has garnered raves for its pristine design and architecture and the beautiful statue of Jesus Christ situated above its entrance. One of the best religious sights in town, Sacred Heart Cathedral is a must-visit for anyone who is in the neighborhood.

tripadvisorIt’s actually very small and therefore not a cathedral ..... but it is a very nice church none the less. Recommended
MoreWith the opening of the new church, Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral, this church is not longer a cathedral but it is still worth a visit. It was the smallest cathedral and is a small intimate church. Daily Mass is held at 12:10 pm most days. It is right downtown so parking is an issue doing the week but paid places are along the street.
MoreMy wife and I attended mass at Sacred Heart on a recent trip to Raleigh. The people of the parish were very welcoming and friendly. The Father was interactive and gave a great homily. The church is small in size to be a Cathedral but it has a lot of charm and history. I know the parishioners were excited about the new Cathedral opening soon.
MoreI always go visit this church when I had plenty of time from work at downtown Raleigh. It was my 1st church here in the US that I abke to burn some candles. It makes me feel i am home.
MoreOn Christmas Day, there a number of masses, both in English and in Spanish. It was so packed, when it came time to kneel, I knelt on the hard bare floor. That’s part of the memorable moments! One really feels the sense of community, regardless if one is not Catholic or one is visiting for the first time.
