tripadvisorBetween many old beautiful buildings, churches and cemeteries, as well as interesting history & cool street art are a lot of run-down dwellings, pot-holed streets, and sketchy citizenry. If time in this area is limited, Gettysburg is better.
MoreI have been to York a couple times but never really have a chance to explore the historic area other than stop to eat and to take a few photos. If you do not have much time and want to visit historic area, from I-83 take E. Market St. Exit and head to downtown. The historic area of town is at the heart of the commercial and business district (around Market and George Streets area). There are a lot of old buildings with history and a lot of places to shop and to eat and to drinks. This is a lovely town that revive the town into a live city rather than a tourist attraction alone. Good place to visit and is less than half hour drive to Harrisburg.
MoreVery old place with a lot of history. There are si gs of depresion in town a lot of empty houses and very nice and bic houses are been sold for very mow price.
MoreWalked in the historic district on two nights while in York and loved the vibe. Lots of places to visit and eat!
MoreI had no idea how much history was preserved in York. A pre-Civil War hotel that Charles Dickens stayed in (and didn't like); a colonial inn with a Revolutionary War connection, wonderful old banks and a water works, and much more. Really a nice place to walk back in time.
